Question Advice on a 2016 Airstream Interstate 24GT

Hi everyone. My wife and I are new to RV's and are looking to buy our first rig. We've settled on a Class B (just the 2 of us). We've rented a Class B and a Class C as well as a TT, and we both favor the Class B. After looking at more of them than I care to count, we have settled on the Airstream Interstate 24GT line. My assumption was that we'd buy a new or 1 - 2 year old rig, but with pricing what it is, we are now thinking it would be better to buy a slightly older rig that is in good shape at a much lower price. Today I got a call from a local dealer who took in a 2016 with 20K miles on it, one owner, that appears to be in good shape and well maintained (I pulled a CarFax report on it). They are asking $90K for it, but asking and paying are quite negotiable. I would appreciate any input or advice from anyone who's owned the year/model or something close to it. Any deal-breaking gremlins with this year/model? If I think it's one I'm going to buy, I'll certainly have it inspected by a qualified inspector, but given how much knowledge is here, I thought I'd post up and ask for advice. Thanks in advance.

Buy it! I have a 2013 Interstate Lounge EXT with 170,000 miles of exploration all over USA and Canada including Alaska.

Check whether the electric window shades all work. Check out the waste tank dump system including the macerator - make them run water into both the grey and black tanks and then dump the tanks while you watch.

Airstream advice

I read the Airstream forums. A few of the interstate owners have given you great advice. If the dealer won't do all the recomended things them walk. I would try to get an interstate owner near you to be the paid inspector. Best of luck with your RV hunt.

Hi primevector,

Did you close the deal on the 2016 GT ?
I am currently thinking of getting a similar model and year, I was wondering if you are open to a call or text ? I will PM you my contact info if you are cool with it.

Thanks!

Yes, we made the purchase. Before I closed the deal, I pulled a Carfax report on it, then I had a professional inspector do a full inspection. It was worth every nickel. I received a 53 page report with photos and videos, as well as links to technical information on every system in the rig. He only found three minor issues, all of which the dealer fixed before delivery. I also got the coach batteries replaced by the dealer before we took delivery. Before you sign, spend the money to hire a certified inspector. Best advice I was given.

We have taken it out on two trips so far, and the only issue I have is the sewer hose wanting to bind up when retracting. Just need to feed it side to side because the space for it is limited. Other than that, no problems. We are leaving tomorrow on a 5,000 mile trip up to Idaho from Florida, so we'll have the real test soon!

I'm happy to answer any questions I can. I'd prefer not to post my phone number here, but you can email me at RWILSON@L2STUDIOS.COM and I will share it that way.
