Question Boondocking western states winter 2020?s AZ, NM, OR, WA etc.

I have a custom 1989 Ford Econoline Van with High top. Removed the chairs and added bed added Solar still working on it. Anyway. I am wanting to get to know the community in general. I am a white male alone 50 years old. Living in Idaho currently. I made a trip in early spring to Arizona. I liked the area and will start there. Free BLM sights etc.

I am interested in getting to know people doing similar things. I want to get to know others for friendship and security. There's a lot of unknowns out there starting out. Is there a forum or group I can join that get help get me pointed in the right direction?

Thanks again!

I would look for some Facebook forums on van life and van builds... check out the "schoolie" crowd that build out school busses too...

Freerover726!

Facebook, Instragram and other social networking platforms are great places to network as previously mentioned. Here are some more traditional sites if you prefer those:

Take a look at Bob Wells' sites and pages, Homes on Wheels Alliance, Cheap RV Living You Tube channel and the CRVL Forums to start. He is a full time vandweller, which may not be exactly what you plan on doing, however he has tons of tips on how and where to camp in the West. You may be interested in his Caravans, informal gatherings usually held on BLM or National Forest land. They have been canceled for now and are being held virtually.

Another good place to meet like-minded people is RVillage. There are groups here for many different interests related to RV living, full and part time, RV'ers and van dwellers, etc.

Also take a look at iRV2's sister site, Class B Forums. It has a wealth of information, especially regarding technical aspects like solar.

All great information. I am already working through some of it. THANKS!

A little more about my build Working on camper van. Hope to start living full time on the road boon-docking in winter 2020-2021. With things changing rapidly in the world I might start sooner than later.

Anyway I would love to meet others on the road for caravans, campfires whatever comes up!

I thought the process of finding forums would be difficult if not impossible in these times. It seems much easier than I thought! I have found many resources already. I may have a Beta version of my van by summer. Converting 1989 Ford econoline van 1/2 ton with high top. I removed the seats and added a bed. Added Solar panels to the top 300 watts. And three Solar batteries, Have shore power etc. Thing to install I already have waiting. Among other things. Catalytic propane heater 1000-1600 BTU. Three more solar panels bringing it to 500 watts plus a 4th solar battery. It has 2000 watts shore power and a 700 watt regular power inverter. Finishing the interior and side vents with fans. Finish installing backup camera. Porta potty spot?

Other considerations are a side tent for extra room. Mounting my tv. Installing Cell tower repeater booster. Plan on using microwave for some cooking.

Need suggestions for portable shower, water tank etc. I have most of the summer to work all this out.

Suggestions please?
