Class B fire...

Passed what appeared to be a camper van in Death Valley on Apr. 9th. When I first went by, there wasn't any traffic control and so I just drove by...the heat from the fire, even through my closed windows, was fierce. Lots of shrapnel in the roadway. The owners were headed up a long steep hill and the temps were in the 80's so I suspect a busted fuel line? Caught the engine on fire perhaps and the tank exploded?

Anyway, here's some pictures.

I was heading west as I passed it at almost 11 AM and on my way back at near 3 PM, they were cleaning up the site and there was some traffic control with on site police.

Not much left of the thing...

Looks like a cutaway chassis to me - Class C not B. Quite a fire! I hope everyone was okay.

The propane relief valve would have vented, also, creating a hot plume whenever it lets loose. Like this one, at a propane fueling station.

First relief venting event is at about 1:25, but there are more after that. Pretty scary stuff.
