Flat Tire Tales?

Soooo, few B vans seem to come with a spare tire.

Who has had a flat in their Class B in some very inconvenient place (of course!) while lacking a spare?

Interested in unsparing (ahem) accounts of how you proceeded, literally and figuratively.

I'm considering buying one of the Class Bs on the HD Transit dually platform and attaching a motorcycle carrier to the hitch. This would make it quite problematic to carry a spare, but the idea of no spare gives me the shakes.

(I wonder if the Utoob shills never mention this issue for the same reason that OCCC is almost never discussed - because it's a safety issue that salespeople don't want buyers to think about?)

My Transit build has the OEM spare and I had to use it once. I carry a plug kit and compressor and I attempted a plug first but the object went in at a strange angle and the plug wouldn't hold so I put on the spare. This is the first time I've ever had a plug not work so I'm glad I had the spare.

The PW Transit (On tour 2.2) that I've been recently leaning toward, sadly, doesn't have the OEM spare, I'd guess owing to the position of the generator.
They come with some sort of inflator / sealant spraying gizmo as a "fix," you might say, but it's a poor one in my opinion.
There's a Utoob video of a couple (who make many videos about their PW) who had a flat caused by a good sized chunk of metal and who wound up getting their van towed on a flat bed truck - nearly dragging the generator getting the van on and off the truck.

Plugs are a possibility as a backup, but then I wouldn't want to be laying on the ground, say, in the summer in the Southwestern U.S., trying to get a plug into an interior tire on a dually rig!

One person may never get a flat and another
may have 10. I attached a ladder rack with a spare tire holder. Not going to wait hours for a tow truck to find out that now I have to wait to see where he (or she) can locate a tire for me. Oh and hopefully when the tire blew it didn't damage tho wheel also.

Tire Troubles

We have experienced tire failure due to road debris on two occasions. Both times while driving our 2008 Pleasure way Excell. In both cases we called road service and help arrived within 45 minutes. The first question asked was “Do you have a spare?” We did, and we were back on the road about an hour later. We called the RV park where we were headed and told them we would be a little late. The next day we stopped at a tire store and replaced the damaged tire. We recently totaled our 08 Pleasure way and replaced it with a low mileage 2015 Pleasure way Excell, rather than a newer Pleasure way van. The newer vans on the Mercedes chassis do not come with a spare tire and some are all wheel drive. The 2015 Model was the last year of the E-350 chassis, and that is what we were looking for. We often travel to some rural areas where Mercedes Dealers do not exist, but where a Ford Garage is usually nearby. Most good mechanics can work on a Ford, I can and do maintenance on our van myself. Had we experienced tire failure on a van with all wheel drive we would have to be towed by flat bed and might have had to replace all four tires. Our 08 Ford chassis van helped us survive what should have been a fatal accident. It remained relatively intact after rolling three times at 70 MPH on I-40, NOT due to tire failure.

Not a class B, but a class C on a Sprinter 3500 dually. It came without a spare, but Thor did not remove the spare tire carriage under the RV. A couple pieces of superstrut, some all thread rod, and a spare tire/wheel from eBay (cost less than a new tire only) and I have a spare. I traded 76 lbs of cargo capacity for a spare, but I like the idea that I can fix a flat, or call road service and have a spare available.

I have only had one flat on my Class C..Left front in a pouring rainstorm. Managed to make it to a Mall parking lot. Had to lie in 2 inches of water to get jack under it.As soon as I was done...IT STOPPED RAINING!

Large screw

We just recently were at Four Mile Creek state park near Niagara Falls. Picked up a screw near sidewall. Ford pass app alerted me while sleeping that the front pass tire was at 46 psi. Luckily a Ford dealer in Niagara Falls was open on sat. Had to wait about 3 hours to have a new tire brought to them and then replace. A spare would be nice but I have no room for one. There is so much metal and bolts and screws on the road these days.
