Fold out bed vs fixed.

I watch YouTube videos for different Class B and their layouts and see the fold out couch into a bed is common. I just cannot see how a bed with a large seam across it would be comfortable vs a fixed bed like in others.

Do users of this type of bed use a topper to smooth things out?

Yes - I use a topper as do most users of the folding lounge bed systems.

Personally I don't notice the fold but my wife does so yes, we have a pretty thick topper. Bed still folds with no issue.

A Murphy bed could be a good compromise between a fold out sofa and a fixed bed.

We use a foam topper and it's comfortable. Otherwise, our fold down lounge and fold out jump-seats together form a legitimate torture device instead of a bed.

We had a custom topper made of memory foam, and it's heaven. I can't say for sure whether the fold-down couch is worth it because once we've made up the bed, it generally stays that way for the duration of the trip. I suspect the only time we'd need it for regular use is if we had passengers. So far that hasn't happened except when we took it for a test drive at the dealers. We made him sit in the back, of course.
