How do you plan for unexpected expenses ?

WOW....keeping up your rig is like fixing things that go wrong at home.....air conditioning, refrigerator repairs, electrical, and plumbing problems......

There's really no way to actually see this coming, so, you either set money aside, attempt to fix it yourself, put it off or borrow money.....

I try to set aside $600 per month for unanticipated repairs... sometimes it's even more expensive... Last year, expenses were closer to $800 per month...

Some of these things can't be fixed...if you need them replaced.....it can get very expensive....

How do you handle these things??

I keep my 401 accessible. I was on the road to Memphis, at a rest stop when the head gasket decided to let go on my V10 at 102,000 miles, and 300 miles from home. I was able to drive on to Memphis on 9 cylinders ( as long as I didn't shut it off it wouldn't lockup filling the bad cylinder with water ), it never overheated. I stopped every 50 miles and refilled the radiator and left the cap loose. It cost 10K for a ford crate motor installed in Memphis. I setup my 401 to wire funds to my checking account.

I didn't lose my engine, but, a number of things added up to your figure....

I don't know if we really have a choice when these things occur? What else can you do???
