Hymer Class B thoughts and experiences

Hymer from Europe now manufactures in Canada. They also recently purchased Roadtrek. While we are well familiar with Roadtrek, I am curious about owner feedback on the Hymer, Sunlight, and Carado brands that are new entries and different. The latter two are more entry level, while Hymer is more upscale. I see that they have chosen to retain the cassette toilet approach that is common in Europe. They were early to the market with lithium batteries, are adding fuel cell technology, and added a light trailer line. They do seem to be pressing the more major brands to up their innovation game.

Hi Wanderso,

Hymer NA has been a disappointment to say the least. Especially considering their innovative and quality products in Europe.

On a different RV forum there are a few threads that new owners have documented the multiple issues they had with their Activ models.

Lithium technology was acquired through their purchase of Road Trek not through Hymer's own research.

I thoroughly checked out the Activ, Carado and Banff models and was prepared to purchase ... walked away due to the poor quality. Yes, the Activ was the best of them but not good enough.

Hymer had a golden opportunity to give the NA market some of their best designs from Europe ... they chose to just create another line for Road Trek instead.

The other forum is called ClassB forum. Just do a search and then search on Hymer.

Cheers, Steve

And, now we know why things weren't of the best quality that they could be. I read a report the employee's suggestions to improve quality fell on deaf ears in wake of the financial scandal, the Execs truly didn't care ... they had another agenda. We'll see how this all plays out.
