Thor WS31 Converter Question

Hi all, my buddy has a '22 Thor Quantum that doesn't seem to power the AC circuits with the battery when the vehicle is unplugged from shore power. I know that my coach will run the circuits when unplugged.

Is there a trick to getting power to work? Also, where is the converter located? Does it have an inverter? The manual isn't very helpful.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Does your buddy's Quantum have an inverter? If so, is it turned on? What condition is the coach battery in? If it has an inverter, it's possible the converter may be part of it. Otherwise, it could be anywhere, you'll just have to look in all the bays.

An RV's converter is a rectangular box, mounted to one of the inside walls usually in the galley. It takes AC inputs and distributes them through circuit breakers. One of those breakers feeds the battery charger which supplies DC power to the coach's DC circuits through fuses typically. The charger's DC output also connects to the house batteries to power DC circuits when there isn't any shore power for the charger.

To get AC without shore power, you need an inverter that "inverts" DC from the house batteries to make AC. Smaller MHs have one that just feeds a few circuits like for the TV. Bigger MHs have more comprehensive inverters often combined with a battery charger that supplies more or all of the coach's AC circuits.

So, you need an inverter to have AC without shore power. If you don't have AC, you either don't have an inverter or it is turned off or you haven't checked the few circuits it powers or the coach batteries are disconnected.

You have a 34 ft diesel pusher that most likely came with a inverter/charger and a large bank of batteries. Theinverter is using battery power to create 120 volts

Your friends RV is not going to have an inverter/charger unless it was ordered special.

The Thor Quantum is a class C, so you might get more answers in that forum.

Safe travels,
Mark
