Tough question. Some are sourced from the Alternator, some utilize a screw-in pickup mounted at the bell housing/flywheel area and some are sourced from the transmission's speed sensor through the MD3060 trans harness. I can't answer for you definitively but having the Oshkosh wiring diagram would certainly answer your question.. if you have or can find one.

Tach reads 0

Thanks Newmar, I did see a screw in sensor at the bell housing, it looks like the one that is the tach sender on my ford diesel.
I wish I could find a wiring diagram for the Oshkosh chassis, anyone have one? Thanks for the help lkghudson

Oshkosh forum on the Yahoo Groups. Might want to try & post on that forum. Lots of information.
I have a 93 Pace Arrow Diesel on an Oshkosh chassis. Cummins 8.3. Only work I had done on the dash was having the instrument cluster rebuild by ISSPRO. No idea where my 93 pace get's it's input.
