Anyone heard anything about Freightliner's after-market fan clutch for the Cat C7?

Never heard of it. Do you have any other information.

I've got the older 3126 and often wondered why the didn't put a fan clutch on the rig. The fan does pull a good bit of horsepower with it's direct drive, so you'd think that by clutching it and not running it fulltime, mileage could be inproved.

I don't have any further info. Ran across this on Freightliner's
FCOC message board. It is a quote from one of FCCC's Product Managers:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">
We are in the process of determine which engines and radiator
configurations under which model year coaches can accommodate a fan
clutch. In the case of the Caterpillar engine, the C7 engine (and
electronics) started with chassis production in July 2003 which
would be 2004 model year chassis so one thing I can tell you for
sure, is that the electronics are not in place on chassis built
before July 2003 and definitely not on Caterpillar 3126 engines.

We plan to let the FCOC know when & how such an aftermarket kit
would become available to upgrade existing coaches to the fan clutch
option that Freightliner started offering the marketplace for the
2006 model year (May 2005).

Thanks,

Tony Sippel

Based on this it looks like FTLR started offering the option on
some 2006 models, but I can't get any info from local service
center.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't look like it would work on my rig, but I can see the appeal for the C7's. I'll keep my eyes open for any literature on the clutch.
