Air brake pressure switch

Have a 37 foot 2000 Fleetwood Discovery on Freightliner chassis and in the middle of a 2500 mile trip in rural Montana. The gauge for the front air tank is acting up in that it will intermittently drop to zero and of course the red light and buzzer come on. After a minute or so it will reset and bounce a little but eventually settle down and act normal. I have checked the tank pressure and it is fine so I am assuming it is the pressure switch and will replace first chance I get. So, long story long, in the process of checking fittings etc I came across a small white canister a little bigger than the old 35mm film canisters with an air line going in one side and out the other and a light gauge wire going into the side from the harness and another coming out and going to ground. It is mounted just above the genie up front on the firewall. Does anyone know what this is? It is just below the aux air access quick connect. Haven't looked yet but assume the pressure switch is mounted on tank, correct? Thanks in advance for any advice or help. Harv

The canister is the air horn solenoid and your gauge problem is with your VIM, or VIC , vehicle information module ( or center ) I have paper work on the fix.

Many members have had to do this repair.

or Vehicle Data Center or . What ever here's the fix.

Skip - thank you very much for the information. Hopefully I can make it home without the air buzzer staying on. Won't be home to fix for another 3 weeks or so but will post what I find and the fix.

Finally getting back with the fix for the air gauge/buzzer. After re-soldering the circuit board twice and going over all connections I resigned myself to the fact that it was time to get a new board. Did that ($389) and problem gone. Best info I got was that sometimes the pressure sensor goes bad and the re-solder thing just doesn't work. Oh well, lucky me I guess. Thanks to all who offered advice and help. Harv

Got to thinking about the old VDC that I replaced and whether or not there is someone out there who rebuilds these things. Few years ago the Allison computer module went bad and had to replace it ($2500.00 !!) and found out that some gentleman in TX was rebuilding them and offering $50 for the core.
Just a thought.
