Trying to change my air dryer cartridge on my 2008 Discovery. I have no idea where the heck it is. Got the cartridge from Freightliner. Never thought to ask them where the system was loactated.

Should be located on the rear behind axle. Mine is R/R behind axle.

The coach system air dryer on my 2006 Discovery is located drivers side, right behind the rear axle right in front of the transmission. I need to slide under the coach to get to it. Some owners can service the air dryer while it is attached to the coach, but I usually remove the entire unit, take it to my workbench, clean and replace the cartage. On my coach that air dryer is very dirty/greasy due to its location.

Air dryer cartridge location on a 2008 Fleetwood Discovery

I am trying to locate the air dryer cartridge location on my 2008 Fleetwood Discovery. Freightliner chassis. I had to replace a pressure valve on one of my air tanks and while researching saw that there is a air dryer as well. We have had the Coach since August of 2018. Love it. Just normal things going wrong. Since the experts say that your supposed to change the cartridge thought I may as well get that done as well.

Thanks for any help.

Follow the air line from the compressor.

You will likely find the air dryer above the rear axle.

Not exactly an easy location to service, but.........

Mine is located behind the right rear tire. Yours might be the same location, being rigs similar. Good Luck.

I think many are mounted to the frame rail behind rear axle on the drivers side (left).

I can reach up and unscrew the 4 bolts that remove the canister housing and then change out the element. Not too bad on how much room you have underneath. I use a air over hydraulic bottle jack on the axle and then jack stands to hold it up higher for easier access.

Pic and procedure attached from DTNA. Good luck

Air dryer cartridge location 2008 Fleetwood Discovery

Hey guys, thanks for the input. It was on the drivers side in front of the transmission. Your right it is in a absolutely WONDERFUL location. I do like the idea of removing the unit, cleaning it and putting it back. It was pretty messy, covered with road grime. This is more of a project than I thought it was going to be but.... need to get it done. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the help.

The 'plastic' airlines have a unique coupler that takes some knowledge to separate them from the dryer. There actually is a tool to release the plastic tube, but you can do it without the tool. I think I have instructions... let me look. (If you have ever used SharkBite plumbing fittings it is very similar.)

If you can change the cartage without removing the unit, probable better IF you clean it first to make sure no dirt gets into the dryer.

Did you by any chance notice the brand dryer? I have lots of pictures of my Haldex PURest (see pic) when I did mine. If yours is the same brand and model I can post pictures. All in all, its not a really hard job, just trying to twist and turn under the coach is the biggest problem.

Guys, thank you for all the information. Bigd9 your pdf's helped. I was able to do it pretty much in about one and a half hours. The Prep time was what took the longest. Blocking the wheels and bleeding the lines. Was able to reassemble and make sure everything was working correctly without any issues. I had to peel the O-ring off the cylinder. I am not sure if the system had ever been changed out. Only have 27,900 miles on the Coach. The dryer was pretty wet inside and a lot of moisture on the inside of the filter. Thanks again.

The air dryer collects and stores moisture inside the desiccant cartage and then when you hear the whoosh sound when the air pressure builds up to maximum it expels the moisture. That cycles repeats every so often keeping the desiccant dry. As long as you don't see a lot of oil, or any extraneous beads loose in the canister you should be OK.

Good JOB!!! Now sit back and enjoy the sunset!
