Ok, I'll go to back to my hole and not clutter up the thread anymore.

There is a company called “measurement specialties” that makes DEF heads. It so happens that their mfg ID (under j1939) is “MEAS”. I wonder if they are the ones who made the DEF head in your picture. The docs I saw on one of their units use a float. Their block diagram shows the level measurement going into a processor and then output as J1939

Yes I think you nailed it Not much (or any) info about it but the part number is in their system.

Their other DPs use a Freightliner chassis which comes with DEF systems already installed and doesn't seem to have as many failures. The Power Glide failures don't seem to be as prevalent as the Spartan chassis and no one seems to be able to explain the reason for that. Do you know if Spartan uses the DEF pump and AdBlue inline filter from Shaw? Tiffin uses a different filter and DEF pump so that could be a common denominator.

Just for info, here is a link to some information from Shaw and a couple of documents with the DEF system diagram and their filter.

Do you know if the dec head simulator folks are making will work on an rv on the freightliner chassis?

Yes. Absolutely. The only difference is the type of connector used to plug into the coach’s system. Information contained here: https://defsim.myervin.com/dss-conne...er-chassis-xcm

Hi pgalloway59. So there isn’t any misunderstanding, the DSS should work on coaches on Freightliner chassis manufactured in 2016 and newer. The connector will be a TE Connectivity HDSCS rectangular 4 pin connector. It will have a black body with a bright yellow retaining catch. Instructions can be found on defsim.myervin.com

Do you see any trouble codes like 1761, 3364, 3031?

My 2019 on an XC chassis failed at 30,000 miles as we were returning from Alaska a couple months ago. Got it replaced under warranty soon as I got back home, but then found I needed new bushings on my sway bar, alignment, ride ht adjustment and all new tires! Last time up with a Spartan chassis I had zero issues. Guess my next trip up will have to be on another Spartan?

19000 miles and def head replaced under warranty. I did make myself the def simulator to mitigate any future failure. I have not tried the simulator yet don’t know if it works.

I was traveling to Disney Fort Wilderness and received a Low DEF warning (2016 Ventana, Freightliner chassis). Both gauges showed nearly full. I stopped and fueled and added DEF. Low warning stayed. I continued driving and it escalated to Very Low. It derated as I drove thru the gate at Disney; I limped to my spot at 5mph.

Tech said he smelled gasoline in the def tank. Replaced the sensor and doser. Not cheap.

I’ve only added DEF at Loves. They said no issues reported at the stores I used. I saw earlier that the DEF turns to ammonia when sitting. This definitely smelled like gasoline, not ammonia. Anyone hear of gasoline issues, esp related to Loves?
