I'm collecting 'parts/filters' for a long road trip...ordered from rvchassisparts.com extra fuel filter and what was listed as 'Belt, CAT 3126.' Well, I expected to get at least a serpentine belt but what I got was a fairly small notched V belt. I'm guessing this belt is for an accessory (AC compressor, air compressor??).

Anyway, does anyone know the CAT part # for the primary belt on a CAT 3126E, 330 hp?

smlranger,

I dont belive the main serpentine belt is a CAT part. That belt is by the chassis builder and varies for each alternator, fan, air conditioner option. You can look yours up on Accessfreightliner.com

The smaller V belt you got is most likely the CAT waterpump belt; Caterpillar P/N 036-6775

Ok, I'm way out of line here because I know nothing about Cat belts. What I do know, however is that all of the part numbers in Access Freightliner are NOT CORRECT. I specifically went back and forth with them over my A/C belt, with them swearing that they gave me the correct part number and my swearing that there was no way that belt was going to fit over my rear radiator fan blades. Finally, I got the Gaffney tech to call down to his Service group and they admitted that the recommended part number wasn't going to fit.

I ended up buying my serpentine from them and it fit with no problems. If it were me, I'd consider changing the belts and keeping the ones that I took off as spares. That way you know 2 things:
1. How to take the belts off, including what tools you need.
2. That your spare belts are going to fit in an emergency.

BTW, I ended up buying a 2" longer A/C belt from my local NAPA store that works just fine.

Gary,

The alternator belt is a Freightliner part.
Freightliner#-0124730004
Gates#-KO80716HD
Napa#-25-080716HD

The water pump belt is a Cat part.
Cat#-036-6775
Gates#-9341HD
Napa#-25-9341-HD

If you want upper and lower radiator hose #'s, they are Freightliner part #'s.

Upper# 05-18841-000
Lower# 05-20280-000

Since you have the same year and engine as me. I'm assuming they numbers are the same.

Thanks for the info, folks. Perhaps the belt I got is for the water pump but the number on the belt is not 036-6775, it is 061-8384DF.

RV Engine Support 1-877-777-3126.

Mine took the 036-6775 belt

Take your VIN and engine serial number to a Freightliner or CAT dealer and they should be able to order the items. Most external plumbing items ( belts, hoses, filters and etc) are Freightliner specified

I had the serpentine belt replaced on my 3126 and the part number of the Freightliner Invoice is DCO/5080720 V-belt. This belt is made by Carlisle Dayco. Here's a link to the spec for this belt. The cost was $63.00 (CDN) net in June 2004.
