Check the archives, this was a regular topic a few years ago. From what I remember, one particular mounting bolt was a problem for some.

I changed mine a couple of years ago. Just got done doing the fronts again a couple of days ago, and will complete the rears next week.(changing to Koni shocks). On mine the fronts are a breeze. The rears aren't bad either. Harder to get to the top bolts. An impact gun is the way to go.

I just looked at Koni shocks site and couldn't find my chassis. XC-S chassis.

Maybe it's combined with another model?

Did you have to take the wheels off, or were you able to get at them without doing so?

No, did not remove the wheels. I was able to do front and rears by myself. The rear was a pain without any help but doable. I had to reach up to the top bolts while lying on my back. With a helper reaching behind, above the rear wheels from the top is much easier.
