Chassis Grease Recommendation
What NGL2 grease are most of you DIY'rs using for your Freightliner Chassis?

Any top quality grease from a national manufacturer. Most are probably not significantly different from one another. The most important thing is to get the grease in there.

Mobil Delvac grease. Meets all the HD requirements and is part of their superior Delvac product line for HD applications.

A lot of the joints call for moly high pressure grease reasearch before greasng then again any grease is better than no grease

I found all the grease specifications in the Freightliner manual were totally out of date and the recommended grease was no longer made. The EP grease specified by Meritor for the drive line wasn't even on record at the major grease manufacturers so I called Meritor directly. They were at a loss and had only one recommendation, which again wasn't available and wasn't a Moly grease. I found that while the Mobil Delvac doesn't have Moly, it exceeded all the requirements of the specification.

I just inquired yesterday and The Red Line CV-2 Synthetic high performance with red Moly is what my local truck repair center uses exclusively for chassis service.

I use any red extreme pressure grease.

As has been stated, the point is to make sure that the application of grease is thorough and complete. I've not put much thought into researching *grease*. I just get either the Red and Tacky or something that resembles it. I lube my coach probably way more often than anyone simply because, it's easy. And I'm the one that has to replace parts if they wear out, because I was lazy and didn't do it. So, no biggie if it's done more often than the schedule calls for.

I not only look for a grease that is a full synthetic but I also want one with a high drop point.... the drop point is the temperature at which the grease will migrate from a semi solid and turn into a drop... and drip off.... I like to paint the picture like this.... you take a paint stir stick and get a gob of grease out of a tube.... and now apply heat... The grease I buy has a drop point of about 375* F.. and I like to look and buy Schelifer (SP) as its drop point is 450*F... it's my personal belief that if some moving part fails... I want the grease to hang there as long as it can... thus allowing me to stumble across what's going with a heat gun.... so the higher the drop point the longer it will stay put.... And I've learned that the higher the drop point the harder it is to get off a surface if you screw up and put a gob on the floor or the work bench.... have you noticed that most often the high drop point greases are so hard to wipe off.... .that's the sticky stuff in the formula that makes it a high drop point grease.... of course all of these high drop point greases are EP greases as well...
BTW the standard for NGL2 is about 150*F.... and it's approved for most everything.... wouldn't you want the protection of the higher drop point product.... at least that's how I see it...
