Check engine icon

Check engine icon is lit, but no alarms or check engine on the LCD display. I have a 450 Cummins. Drove 800 miles with it on with no problems. Has anybody else had this happen. Thanks

Did you check all the fluids? How about the serpentine belt, that still in good shape? Spinning everything? Or the water pump belt if you have one?

Could be anything. Need to put a scan tool on it to see what it is. When mine came on it was the breather filter that was getting plugged getting higher than normal crankcase vent pressure.

I have a 2020 with a 450 ISL
I can scroll on my dash to diagnostics
Then scroll to faults
It show the faults on the screen.
These faults were the beginning of a bad day

Check your fuel caps and make sure they are both tight.

Freightliner replaced a line to the def heater at no cost to me. It caused no derate or other problems, just a lit engine icon. I guess there must be a heater element for freezing weather.

There is no DEF heater "element". DEF is heated by engine coolant.

CEL can be virtually nothing or very serious. It may cause no problems or could change to a Stop Eng Lt.

All I can tell you is they replaced def line (wire) heater circuit 3 which had a short. which was throwing codes 3238, 3241, and 3423. What can I say?

ernieh & TUCSONRAIL, the DEF TANK is heated by routing hot engine coolant through a stainless steel heating loop that is built into the DEF sensor, BUT the LINES that transport the DEF fluid from the tank to the DEF doser pump and injector and back to the tank are heated with 12V heating coils built into the hoses (like a garden hose with a “heat tape” wrapped around it).
