Circle check before heading out OK. Fuel stop, missing parts.

Departing from Marshall, MI this morning and circle check is complete and all good.

We arrive at our first fuel stop and find find the tag axle chrome wheel hub cover is missing.

I still have have not found where to purchase a replacement but during the research I did do, see that a special wrench makes the job easier. I have reached out to Don's RV Wrench to see if they are still available.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Freightliner chrome wheel hub cover?

Try these salvage guys for a replacement but note there are something like 3,000 RV salvage yards in the US and you might find a better price or something closer to your location if you check around...Visone

That special tool? Are you talking about the pair of clamps with rubber cover on the jaws that let you pull off the chrome jam nut covers? Most every truck parts store has those. Also many truck stops have both those and the chrome lug and jam nut covers.

Please be aware that the jam nuts take a much lower torque then a lug nut. Only 40 ft-lbs in the case of my Winnebago's 22.5" tires whereas the lug nuts take 450 ft-lbs. Many shops don't know this and ruin the hub caps or wheel hub covers when they tighten them down too tightly.

I learn something new on here every day.

Are you sure you didn't mean 3,000 RV Parks that LOOK like salvage yards?

I agree with Jim about checking at a truck stop. That's where I'd go first.

Try a freightliner service/parts place, I bought a front one from a freightliner service shop.

The Freightliner service center in Salina KS carries a large line of covers, caps and so on for a price of course

Unfortunately you are right to some extent

On my searches I have only found a few large salvage yards that have much later model equipment in inventory so I must not be searching that well

Lost one of mine on the first trip out too. I went to my Freightliner service and bought one and the special FL lug cap for it. Wasn't cheap but haven't lost any more.

When I lost one, I pulled the opposite cap off and on the inside was a part number sticker. Then I Googled that part number and several sites came up with replacements.

OP mentioned tag axle HUB cover. I believe what he is talking about is the 6" or so cover in the center of the wheel, held on by 4 or 5 tabs (Accuride wheels) with spring catches on them. Same as front wheel cover. If you order from Raney's, keep them waxed. Mine pitted horribly w/i a year. The OEM covers still look great.
Prior to starting my current trip I noticed both replacement covers were a little loose. Qtr inch gap between cover lip and wheel. Tried to pry spring tabs tighter, to no avail. Was sure I was going to loose one, or both. 2500 miles later, they're both still there, still loose. Go figure.
