Cummins ECM updates?
I have gotten our 2013 Itasca serviced at the factory service center in Gaffney since we got it. We've followed their recommendations.
When leaving on a trip last week, got 150 miles and the check engine light came on with a noticable loss of power. Limped into the Cummins dealer in Albany, GA and boondocked for the night. They got us in right away, and determined that the ECM just needed to be updated (we were apparently on rev 10, and the current software release is rev 21). It fixed the problem, and we were able to continue our trip.
Is this something that should have been checked during the annual service???

I think the problem might be that Gaffney is not a Cummins certified service center. Yes, they will change the oil for you just as "Jiffy Lube" will change the oil in your car. Neither has access to the manufacturer's updates.

Turns out that the biggest issue in fact is that Gaffnet is not a Cummins Certified facility. Apparently if there is a Cummins dealer within the area, Cummins will not also certify anyone else to control territory.
I'm still checking to see if Cummins would do this if it were brought in there for service.

We have had 3 diesel pushers since 1999....and we are originally from Connecticut but needed service on our unit in 99 and were near Albany,Ga..so made an appointment...we have been going there yearly for service or any other problems we can save til we close enough to them...they are the best techs we have run across and fair.....some of the guys have retired but Rusty and Steve are still there .....can get engine service and gen set service at the same time...
Right down the street is WW Williams for Allison service....
You were in great hands for your problem... FSU Chuck

I was at the Gaffney Service Center this spring. The techs advised me that they believed I had a noisy turbo and would need to go to a licensed Cummins Certified Shop to have the turbo checked. They were not licensed to do so. I believe JMonroe is correct with his answer.

Yeap. They just install engines - they don't build them or fix them. They do, of course, handle the engine cooling, engine air intake, engine fuel supply and what not. To most drivers those are part of the "engine" too, so they mistakenly assume the FCCC can do everything, but that's not the case.

If you look at your freightliner owners manual you will not see anything about oil, filter, ect.. They do tell you about lubing chassis, brakes, air filter, ect.. You should have also gotten a Cummins owners manual. That manual covers oil changes and such.
