Diesel Generator not started for months now won't start

Hi,
We have a 2019 Fleetwood Pace Arrow LXE model 48K.
Have not used this coach much, never dry camped.

The diesel generator has not been started for 8 months, it should have been, however coach was in storage.

Now it turns over, but will not start.
Assume the problem is fuel related, would really appreciate some advice.

Thank you so much

George

Sounds like air in the fuel system. You need to get the fuel bleeding procedure for your generator and bleed the air out. Should be in the owners manual and lacking that you need to go online. Perhaps youtube.

I had an issue where the fuel supply lines to the genset , kinked , at the back of the genset , where the extra length to allow for the slide out movement , bunches up when the genset is retracted .
Genset would run when extended out , but quit when retracted .

You have to get under the front end , using all safety precautions to view the fuel lines.

EDIT: You do have over 1/3 tank of fuel don't you ?

If it is an onan you should be able to hold the start button down to prime the system.

If it is cold outside and any of the glow plugs are bad it can be hard to start.

When you try to start it hold the start button down just long enough to let the glow plugs cycle. The moment it begins to turn over let up and do it again a couple of times.

You do have to hold the start button down quite a bit in cold weather so you need to be patient.

I am assuming it is turning over of course.

Be sure you have over a 1/4 tank of fuel.

The generator fuel pickups are set higher in the tank. That's so you don't use up all of the fuel and can't get to a station.

If you know your fuel supply is OK and the generator motor is turning over when you hit the start button, start the coach engine and let it run at a fast idle, alternate holding the generator start button for about ten seconds on and 10 to 20 seconds off to insure you are not overheating the starter. Keep repeating the cycle and it should start. That has been my experience after long periods in storage - kinda like the engine lost its prime.

If it worked before you put it away and now it doesn't it's not a kink line it's not major issue it's one of two things Fuel filter are not being primed correctly. Keep it simple

So the Onan has a circuit as mentioned above when you put the switch in the off position it starts and runs the fuel pump... this is to prime, and remove air.... if someone slides under the coach and listens when the switch is pushed you can hear the pump run.... don't hear it, pull the cover to filter and listen again...

If you hear it and it won't start.. what I've done a time or two is remove the return fuel line... usually marked or is the smaller of the two... us an adapter and run it into a container and with the hose under the fuel... look for bubbles... bubbles means its getting air... and it will never start... there is a air leak on the suction side of the pump.... if there's no fuel.... pull the filter and try and blow through it... remember that diesel can grow algae and algae will clog a filter...

Now lets step back... you make the test... no bubbles and it pumps lots of fuel.. go to the glow plug circuit or timer and check it out...

Best of luck...

I just got my long term storage generator started. After reading through every onan generator manual I could find, I stumbled upon something that said "hold the prime button for up to one minute". I did that, and it started right up.
