I called the Freightliner help line today for a part number and was informed that they no longer provide part lookups. They refer you to your Freightliner dealer.

Did they ask if you wanted to join DTNA Connect , so you could look up your own P/Ns ?
This. ^^^
Be prepared to be persistent to get into DTNA connect. Response to the initial application can take a couple of weeks. Then, if you're not the original owner, the "warranty database" will need an update to allow you to register successfully. (Whether it's in warranty or not is irrelevant.) If this happens, go to a FL dealer and stand there until they do it. It's not a particularly user-friendly system and it can take a couple of tries to get it right. Review *everything* before you leave to make sure it's accurate. It took me two dealers to get it done in the end.

That is a big change esp since in the online Freightliner class I took in March, the trainer, Billy kept telling us over and over to call the “part guy” for ANY questions.
FL going the way of many corporations in customer service I guess.

You are 100% correct. The dealership needs to update the warranty registration in OWL (DTNA warranty system) in order for you to have access to your VIN. It's best to ask for the warranty manager. If anyone needs help, shoot me an email jhudelson@orlandofreightliner.com and I would be glad to help. Source: Parts Manager at Ocala Freightliner. I also can help you all out on most hard to find parts.

It's hard to find offers better than this one. On behalf of those not yet entered with the OWL, I thank you!
I'll keep you in mind next time I need an FL part the local dealer hasn't got.
