Freightliner Sauer Danfoss hydraulic fan leaking

Recently on my trip home from Ft Myers, I noticed a couple of drops of oil under the side radiator on my 04 DSDP on a Freightliner XC chassis. I spent a lot of time researching and trying to find a seal kit for it. No luck, the motor is obsolete, kits are obsolete and your only choice is to buy a new one. At this point there’s no harm in pulling the seal out and try to find a replacement. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that this seal is a 25X42X7mm seal. Very common. Posting this so anyone else in this situation can pre order the seal before taking the motor out. One person can probably get it out but it’s a 2 man job putting it back in. Leaking Hydraulic Fan Motor

To AdamZ
I am excited to see your post today. I have a Freightliner chassis that was built in May of 2006. The body is a Tiffin bus 40 QDP. The engine is 8.9 Cummins.
The side radiator hydraulic fan motor seal is leaking The factory parts department told me the motor is obsolete and no longer available. At this time I do not have a solution.
I attempted to remove the motor and quit when I found I cannot reach the top hose fitting laying under the coach.
Hopefully, you can answer these questions.
Did your Sauer Danfoss motor have a hose fitting on top that goes to the side radiator, a fitting on the bottom that I think is the oil from the pump, and a small line on the back that connects to the bottom of the oil reservoir? Are the fittings threaded where they attach to the motor or flanged with "O"-rings. Mine is threaded fittings.

Sounds exactly like mine. I removed the large bottom hose that goes toward the radiator and then removed the hose that goes to the pump and the small one that goes to the bottom of the hydraulic reservoir. I pulled the motor out with all of the hoses attached. It would be a good time to change the fluid and filter. The filter is inside the reservoir. Mine had a Fram C1720 filter. 3 gallons of Dexron lll to refill. Click image for larger version

Is that the shaft seal you're talking about? And, what manufacturer and part number did you go with?

The seal replacement itself is easy. Drill 2 1/8” holes in the seal, screw in a couple of sheet metal screws and pull it out. Tap the new one in with a socket.

I bought the seals at Applied Technologies in Jackson,MI. They are available online, type in 25X42X7mm oil seal. Amazon, eBay etc...

Try a bearing store as they have seals for about everything.

I forgot to mention that there is a steel washer under the snap ring that has to come out to get to the seal. Mine was kind of rusty and stuck, it was harder to get out than the seal

Thank you for the post on 11/15/20. Your post inspired me to replace the leaking seal on our Freightliner chassis with a Tiffin bus body.
I have tried to add more information about doing the work and not able to make the post. I think I get timed out.
Now the motor is not leaking and am trying to deal with the problem of replacing the failed Sauer Danfoss FDC (Fan Drive Control) module. I am very disappointed with Freightliner as they do not have replacement for these frequent failure parts.
