Freightliner Steer Tag Axle SL Chassis problems

Does any one with a Freightliner Steer Tag Axle SL Chassis experiencing issues with the tag axle alignment? there seems to be a problem with the tag axle being mounted off-center and out of alignment from FCCC. The problem may not be so obvious, depending on the extent of the mis-alignment. If anyone has the above chassis, would appreciate hearing from them and what issues they may have had. I believe the problem may have started some times in 2015.

Here is a TSB by Newmar for 2016 units. Do not know if any other manufacturer's have this chassis and/or experiencing the same problem. Thank you.

I just recently purchased a new 2016 Dutch Star 4369 After taking possession of the coach I called Freightliner on another issue but asked if there were any recall's. The tag axle issue came up as well as the replacement of the front IRS suspension with a 18,000 lb axle vs its original 17,000 lb unit.

Found out the front axle had already been replaced but my tag axle was about 2 inches to the left of center.
I called my local LA Freightliner repair station and they referred me to another shop (part of their business) called Transwest in Colton Calif. Transwest wanted to keep the coach for 2 or 3 days to make the repair. I called Freightliner for other warranty stations and they told me that M&M Coach in Chino was authorized. Good news as they're only 2 miles from where I live. Called and made an appointment and last Monday 11/21/16 I dropped off the coach at 8:00 AM and at 1:30 PM they called and said it was done. They even called in a mobile alignment company to ensure that he toe in was correct.

So in conclusion, take a straight edge like a 2 x 4 or 6' ruler and place it across the diameter of the tag tire and see where the straight edge lines up on the outer dual tire. Do that on both sides and they don't line up in the same spot they you have a tag axle alignment issue. Also call Freightliner and give them your chassis VIN and they'll tell you if you need a new front axle.

I purchased a 2017 Newmar London Aire last month and when I drove it I knew something was not right because it did not drive as good as my 2014 Newmar Mountain Aire. I was continually having to move the steering wheel from left to right like there was slack in the steering. Freightliner had me take it to a Freightliner dealer and they found that my tag axle was off center 1 inch, my ride hight was incorrect on my drivers side front and the toe on the tag axle was adjusted from 0.37 to 0.01. Looks like this problem has continued into the 2017 Freightliner chassis.

Thank you for your information. Was the tag axle being of center your only issue? On mine, all 3 axles were out of alignment plus the tag of-center.

Do your tires show any wear? They have so far, replaced the tag tires twice. once every 3k miles or so and the drive tires after 8k miles.

Just the tag was off center and no abnormal tire wear
