Freightliner Turn Signal Switch
2014 Fl chassis Tiffin Phaeton Coach
Only 17,000 miles on the coach, however my turnsignal switch appears to be done for. Making a turn, either direction, push or pull lever to the indent, no signals. Push or pull and hold against the stop and signals work, thank goodness.
Not sure that it matters, but when you make a turn, and bring the wheel back to straight the lever does go back to the middle position as it should.
Anybody had this problem?
Any one have experience with changing the switch? Do I need to pull the wheel? Maybe better to take into FL?
Thanks for any help!
L.

Hi Lloyd, are you a DIY sorta guy? The normal turn signal cancel mechanism is based on friction. The mechanism maybe enclosed in a replaceable component. Have you tried to look up the steering wheel/column installation? Otherwise just get it to a Frieghtliner shop. To bad it's out of warranty.

Hi Patterbery!!! Soory for the delayed response,,, had 2 days without internet.
Yes, I am a DIY'er. I ordered a new switch, was scheduled for today, but local FL dealer says not till Monday now. It got caught up in the holiday off thingie.
Will update once I get it, gonna try myself, see what I run into. If not I am lucky enough to live about 30 miles from the FL factory service center.

The last control column I tore into was on a Ford E350 passenger van. Be aware of flying springs. Good luck.

Got the closure over the steering column off, not going any further till the new switch is in hand. As is I could move the coach if I wanted.
New switch expected tomorrow.

Hi Lloyd. Does your coach headlights have a "flash to pass"function? Or, can you flash the headlights buy pulling back on the turn signal lever?

Greetings!!
The switch is replaced and my problem is solved. The new switch cost $189. Removing the plasic enclosure from around the steering wheel and re installing was harder than the switch replacement. Once access is gained, one cable to unplug, and 2 allen head screws and the switch is in your hand.
Patterberry, if I lift the signal lever it turns on the high beams (assuming the headlights are on). Not sure if it has any affect with the headlights off. The running lights (daytime driving lights) come on when I put the coach in gear. Will try flashing the high beams next time I have it running.

Mornin' Lloyd. When you wrote "lift"you were pulling the lever back, toward yourself, correct?

Good morning!!
No, confused I guess. If I pull back toward myself, it turns on the left turn signal. Lift up, is high beam low beam, push away right turn.
What am I missing?

I think we're working from two different reference points or POV. Your okay. I'm looking for a way to put a "flash to pass" system on my 38N Bounder. Anyway, enjoy your fix.

I see in your picture that the steering column is extended. How did you accomplish that?
