Leary54,
I've only dealt with replacing that Medallion Information Screen, not working on any problems with it. But, I'm not one for telling folks to immediately call the Freightliner Customer Assistance hotline when, in some cases, just a little bit of investigation might find the issue. Now, I'm not sure just how much any factory Freightliner wiring has changed in the four years between our coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT, and your '08 Freightliner chassis model.
But, I have "dabbled" in other issues that, involved learning about that information screen. In short, I had a problem with what's called the "J-1939" Data link. That data link, provides communication from all the major components, i.e. Engine ECM, Trans TCM, Brake system ABS Module and, through that J1939, all that info is sent to what's called on mine anyway, the MMDC or, Multi-Module-Data-Controller.
It's a box (computer) that assembles all that info and, deciphers it, then sends it up to the dash gauges where it's displayed for the driver to see. That includes, all analog gauges and, the "Annunciator panel" or, other wise known as the "Light Bar". That's the one with all the colored square lights that have all the icons in them.
Now, tied into all of this, is the Medallion Information Center LCD Screen. It receives data from that MMDC in conjunction with what's being seen on the gauges and, the Annunciator panel. If, any issue, at either start up, or, while your driving, pops up on that Annunciator panel, i.e. Low Air pressure, low voltage, any issue with the J1939, Check engine, stop engine, low fuel, and much more, it will have a colored icon on that Annunciator panel light up and, you'll also see one that will say, "Check Info Screen".
At that point, you look over at that Info Screen and, it shows a brief explanation (very brief) of the problem.
Now, with all that said, there are approximately four wires that attach to the back of that Info Screen, if I recall. Are there any fuses involved, not sure. Are you having any of the icons light up on the Annunciator panel telling you of any issues? If not, it sounds like it's quite possible that you've lost the ground to that screen but, this is only speculation.
On our previous coach, a '99 Fleetwood Bounder 34V with the V-10, the dash just lifted up to reveal all the wiring and much more, below and behind that dash. I don't know if Fleetwood kept that design on yours or not.
Now, if I were you, I'd maybe do what's possible to gain access to the back of that info screen and see if you can see something simple and or easy as the problem. If you're extremely lucky, you may find that the plug, just fell out or, became loose somehow. This is why I don't like calling the Freightliner Customer Assistance line right off the bat when I have some sort of wiring issue. To me, it's embarrassing when I've gone through the trouble of getting them on the phone and they say, did you check the GROUND for your issue, right here at this spot? And I go out and look at that spot and, the wire for the ground is broke!!!
Now, not all issues like yours are resolved so easily and, in many cases, the Freightliner assistance hot line is of real value and, many of us are really glad they're there to help us. I just try and figure out things to the limit of my ability and then, make the call. I don't know if any of this may have helped you at all or not. But, they, at the Freightliner assistance hot line, are more than willing to help. Good luck.
Scott
