Inside rear tires high temperature
We just picked up a brand new 2026 Tiffin Allegro RED 33AA on a Freightliner chassis. The TPMS is telling me the inside rear tires are around 180 degrees. All other tires are registering around 130.
There is no discernible temperature difference to the touch. I would expect to be able to notice a 50 degree difference. The warning came on toward the end of a 1 hour drive.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Stan and Janice

Thr brake drums are inside the inner tires. They make the inner tires hotter and limits the air flow. The outer tires are open.

My inside tires normally run 3-4 deg higher that the outer and the tag which is normal due to reduced airflow. But 50-deg higher and 180-deg overall is dangerously hot! Hope it's a sensing issue. Happening on both sides or just one?
What pressures are you running?
What is your rig's weight? Overloaded?
Look at the space between the inner and the outer -- should not be touching. If they are you're either overloaded or underpressurized.
On your tire's manufacture's web page, download the tire pressure chart. Get the rig weighed. Preferably the 4-corner weight, but if you can't get that done, get it weight at any truck stop w/a CAT scale and air up your tires to the maximum recommended pressure for the weight per the manufacturer's recommendation.
When I picked up my rig all the tires were at 110 psi and I was getting a overpressure warning. As a NOOB, it took me a couple of weeks to figure out max pressure should have been 85.
Brand new? Use your warranty while you can!
Congrats on the new ride!
Good luck

I have a 21 RED 33AA, and to be honest, I've never found that the TPMS registers correctly. I frequently get a "COMM ERROR". When I do get pressures / temperatures, they are all over the map. Some are higher than I know they are, some are lower. The pressure and temperature will change for no reason and flag a alert. I'll check the pressures manually and they will be fine, but the TPMS registers different at each tire when I know they are the same. I've asked my Freightliner dealer about it each time I've gone in for service, but nothing ever changes. I've gotten so that I just ignore it, which is a shame since I should be able to rely on it as early warning that I have a problem.

If true that the TPMS is unreliable, you may want to consider an after market TPMS for your coach as well as the TOAD. Google "TPMS irv2". You'll get a lot of opinions and options.
Good luck

Inside tires showing hot
Thanks for the responses. I am sure we are not overloaded as we don’t have any of our stuff in the rig, however I will get it weighed.
BOTH inside tires were showing hot so doubt it is a sensor issue. What are the chances both inside sensors are bad?? However, there was most certainly NOT a 50 degree difference to the touch from the outside to the inside tires.
I manually checked the pressures and set them according to the sticker on the door. They were all a little high but nothing really outstanding. I may get an IR thermometer to actually check the true temperature. I spoke with Freightliner “help” and they sort of blew it off. We had a Tiffin Breeze before this and the TPMS never displayed such a discrepancy.

"What are the chances both inside sensors are bad??" Never underestimate Murphy!
An IR thermometer is a an excellent tool to have since there are many uses other than checking tire temps. In the short-term it will hopefully give you some peace of mind with your current tire dilemma, but what you really want is accurate readings as you're driving.
I don't have any issues with my coach's TPMS [so far], but since I wanted to monitor my TOAD's tires w/an after market TPMS, I got enough sensors for the coach and TOAD, so I now have redundancy for the coach.
Good luck

Our rear inside tires have always run hotter and with a higher pressure than outside even when they start out with the exact same temperature and pressure. Now it's not 50 degrees but around 15 to 20 degrees and about 10PSI higher.

Very disappointed with brand new Allegro 33AA
Second day of ownership and sitting in a Freightliner parking lot.
Several small issues taken care of at delivery but I have 2 much larger problems. Inside dully tires (both) get super hot. Over 180 degrees. The delivery driver had to have had warning lights on for the trip from Red Bay to NC where we bought the coach.
Also we appear to have an air leak. Air pressure drops to about 30psi over night. It builds back fairly quickly but it should not lose that much pressure overnight.
The coach sat at the dealer for a little over a week so it had to be moved a few times to get washed, inspected, delivered…. Somebody should have noticed the pressure loss and had that corrected before delivery.
I knows things break but I am quite dissatisfied right now.
While I wait….does anybody have thoughts on the hot tires and the loss of air pressure?
Thanks,
Stan and Janice

Concerning the rear dually inner tires, what is the tire pressure on these tires?
Were the temps taken with a laser thermometer or are you getting the reading from the wheel sensors?
The only thing I can think of to make the inner tires that hot is the brakes are not adjusted properly and are dragging.
On our our last trip I got a warning that one of the rear duals was at 185 degrees but the tire pressure was normal, shortly thereafter the temp reading returned to normal.
As far as air pressure, ours will leak down after a couple of days, not sure what the exact number is for allowed leak down but I was told once by Tiffin regarding ours was that if the Mh maintained the correct pressure when operating the MH, it was within spec.
On an added note, surprised that the delivery driver drove that far with the temps reading that high.

Were the inner tire rims substantially hotter than the outer tire rims?

Dumb question
With the IR thermometer, where do you aim it at on the inside dually? Do you crawl under and get the inside of the tire?

You'd have to do it after a drive and yes, it would involve getting under the rig.
I would test the sidewall furthest from the outer tire (the inner sidewall) on both the right and left tires as well as the brake drum. Then also take the temps at the tread area in case the brake drums are skewing your readings. Then take the temps of the outside tire on the sidewall furthest away from the inner tire (the outside sidewall).
Realize there will be a slight differences on the outside tires between sides dependent on which side is exposed to the sun unless you were driving under an overcast.
Recommend a small notepad and pencil with your tire layout already on it so you can easily assign temps to your drawing.
Good luck

Tire temp vs rim temp
The TPMS senders that are clamped to the rim will show rim temperature not
tire temperature. I have same issue on my 22 NewAire, inside duals show 180-190 if I am using some brakes in hot weather.
The IR temp of the tires inner and outer are always 120-135 in hot weather driving.
Would be nice to be able to reprogram the limits and avoid the alarms.
