Installing a VHF/UHF Transceiver

I want to install an VHF/UHF ham radio transceiver in the drivers area and I'm looking for advice on where to connect the radios 12 volt power wires. The radio draws 12 amps maximum.

My MH is a 2006 Itasca Horizon Class A on a 2006 Freightliner XC chassis. Under the drivers seat in the basement compartment is an electrical cabinet with three rows of circuit breakers. The circuit breakers are connected to 12v bus bars.

Is it safe to simply connect my radios positive power wire to a circuit breaker bus bar, the ground wire to chassis ground, and rely on the radios inline fuses for protection?

The power to the buss bar is probably protected within 3 ' of the batteries with a 12 volt circuit breaker ( depending on cable size ) could be up to 135 amp.

Have you been to this site for Winnebago wiring diagrams , perhaps the best info would be there.

www.winnebagoind.com/diagram/Wiring.htm

Chassis wiring schematics , should be available from Freightliner , by calling the help line with your serial number .
1-800-385-4357 if you don't need the F/L info for this particular install , it will probably come in handy later .

I think you are on the right track for power, have you figured out a suitable antenna yet? That seems like an issue with a non-metal roof and a tall height.

Will go with Diamond HRKS mount and Comet SBB-5 dual band 5/8 wave antenna. I plan to mount the antenna on the driver side upper glass.
