J1939 & J1708 Data Port on 2002 Journey

Want to install a ScanGuage D on a Journey 2002 diesel pusher. Can't find J1939 & J1708 data port in vicinity of dash. Anyone know if this unit has one of these in the front?

Well Sir,
Typically, that data port is located, low and to the left of the steering column. On some, it's down REAL low, as in about an inch or two off the floor. Some, like mine, are mounted to the firewall, that low. Some, are just tied up in a loom but, still buried in that quagmire of wiring below the dash.
Now, does this mean you have one, well, let me ask you this, do you have the identical one, above the radiator in the back of the coach? If you've got one there, than I'd bet you have one where I described it should be, in the front, under the dash, on the left side. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of probing around to find it and, sometimes you bend down and, there it is, right in front of you.

It is there. You have to get on your belly with a flashlight and move stuff around. Look for a grey cap that covers the plug.

Good luck.

Hey jhanan,
What ever you do, DO NOT loose that little gray cap. It hovers around $20.00 "JUST FOR CAP" from Freightliner parts. Not that you plan on loosing it, this just cracks me up, twenty bucks for injection molded, 10 zillion a minute made, plastic cap.

On my 2004, the plug is facing downward. ScanGauge D plug had to go up vertically to plug into the port under dash on left side.

Hey Robert,

That's a seriously good price, based on what the Freightliner dealer wants for them. I don't think I need FIFTY of them but, a couple extra, just in case one vibrates off while in transit. But, I don't think they're break up the bunch. Darn.

I'd buy the batch if I knew enough people wanted them.

That's a serious gesture. This is one of those things that, no one would think about that little cap, UNTIL THEY LOST ONE! Then, they'd have a heart attack when Freightliner told them the price. You and I've been on here for a long time and, I've yet to read on here where someone's lost one. Oh well. No biggie. Great find though.
