Marker Lights & Tail Lights Stay on When Engine is Running

I recently noticed that when I turn the parking lights on with the engine running first thing in the morning, when I test the lights for proper operation on the toad as well as the rig. Than later when I turn them off they stay on until I shut the engine off. Is this normal on the Freightliner Chassis and has anyone else noticed this?

Not normal. Does it do this when the toad is disconnected? I think you are getting a voltage feedback somewhere from the toad.

Thanks for your reply CaptBill. I talked to the Freightliner 24/7 help line and was told that when the Wipers are activated the headlights and tail lights are activated. That circuit stays activated until the ignition is shut down again. So what the tech was saying if When I started the engine if I activated the wipers for any reason and shut the wipers off the taillights would stay activated until the engine was shut down again. I have daytime running lights so I would not have noticed a change in the headlights. So I am going to play around with it and test those parameters out. When I have it figured out I will post back here.

Called Freightliner when I noticed this on my 2013 Elliipse--they could not tell me how to disconnect the wiper to light feature. They said that since most states have laws for lights on when wipers on, this was a benefit! If you can find the black box that controls the lights, you may be able to disconnect it.

it is the smart wheel, and I do not think you can, as the smart wheel also controls the wipers.
