Bought a used '04 Meridian last April, 24000 on odoometer. Been getting average of 7.8 mpg over 5000 miles since then.
Good drivetrain. Keep the radiator clean to avoid overheating.

We tested a new chip upgrade for the C-7 and we saw an increase from 735 Ft lbs of torque to 1105 and a 95 horsepower increase. These are on the ground numbers,so far that customer is seeing 9.6 miles per gallon.

Mike, personally I think he is nutz messing with that Cat warranty. The C-7 is strung out pretty far already from the factory to make 350 HP. IMHO

The warranty issue is valid, as folks who have their engines reprogrammed for more power, pay a substantial amount of money for the warranty upgrade.
from Cummins up in smoke, Newmar thread.

as I was saying Warranty

C'mon Steve,

They want you to use Cummins oil & additives too, anything else they will frown upon! The original Cummins 8.3C engine was 250 horsepower & by the time it was dropped they had it up to 325...From the factory.
Now don't be all grumpy cause the Cowboys are gonna roll this year!! By the way did you get one of those replica's of last week's jersey???? Those are real special!

Pat and I now work for the Eagles orginization. I thought those jerseys were really ugly, but I do now own one. $280 for an original player worn, $80 for a new one, and I paid $45 off of e bay the bargin hunter that I am. I wouldn't touch my Cats computer. And, The Cowboys still Suck

Steve, Steve, Steve, I'm shocked that you are so reserved in your judgement. However, I do agree with you on one thing; I like my Cat just the way it is.

Go Cowboys!!

Steve,

How is work today???? That sure was a great showing last night!Did your employers gain any yardage???
I respect your feelings on the chip, but some people want more power.
By the way did you want to place a bet on the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl??? I going to Vegas at the end of the month && could take care of it for you!

Hey hey hey.... This thread is about Cat C7 Mileage performance, not yer favorite football team (Go Bills!)

By the way, now with over 8K miles on the coach, I'm averaging a little over 8mpg. It does get better with age!

Mike, how does the chip improve mileage (along with HP and torque)?? Sounds interesting.

And with respect to Steve's concern around warranty, does rechipping the engine mess up the warranty from CAT?

Don,

The chip will not void your warranty. It increases boost, injector pulse width, spray pattern, etc. The power gain's we are seeing are phenominal & the mileage is just a side benefit.

I can understand how you might get the benefit of additional HP and Torque, but I am very surprised at the increased MPG. What I've read in the past is that MPG generally suffers when 'chipped up'.

Is there any published graphs on the HP and torque curves at the 2 programming levels as a function of RPM?
