I have had the coach in to two seperate techs to fix an issue with the coach shift handle. WHen I try and start the coach with shift handle in neutral and brake set nothing happens, I giggle the shift handle and eventually get it to turn over when I push the shift handle just slightly out of neutral. The lastest from the techs is one says perhaps a whole new shift cable and another says it is prob simply a worn pin/linkage where the cable connects at the tranny, another said neutral safety switch,,,has anyone seen this before, 2000 Journey DP Freightliner with CUmmins.

From the sounds of your symptom, your problem may be the same as mine and not related to the shift lever at all.

On mine, I turn the ignition key on, turn it to the start position and the starter doesn't engage. The wiring diagram does show that the ignition switch voltage for start passes through the "neutral sense" relay before getting to the remote start relay. This week, Freightliner advised me that they have had problems with the contacts on the start relay from the ignition switch wire. Tomorrow, I plan to find that relay (it is supposed to be mounted to the passenger side frame rail) and check its connection to the relay. You might consider doing the same.

Today, I found what I believe is the relay. One terminal on the coil was very loose and couldn't be tightened. The other was so tight that it was spinning the post. Since that post was very corroded, I opted to replace the relay. I ended up having to break both wires to get the old one off.

I mounted the new one and made sure that the connections were all tight. We'll see if I still have a problem now.

I had a problem simler to this, on my 2000 freightliner chassis, It would not crank in nutural. I took it to Covington Diesel it had a allison trans. The Nutural safety switch which was built in the side of the trans. with the all the other wireing harness & other things. It checked out fine but it sill would not crank. When I got home I started checking out wires, on the rear left side behind the tires on the chassis was a stud welded with ground wires on it one had broke, I put a new end on it and make it 4" longer and that solved my problem. But it took several hrs. to find this hope it helps someone. Jim
