I have a 2006 Phaeton, new to me, went to check oil in front hubs, pulled rubber plug out, oil leaked out, there is no sight glass and no where it could be attached, Called freightliner, they checked agreed no sight glass on this chassis, could not give me a definate answer as to how much oil it should hold, just stated if it runs out its might be overfilled, any thoughts appreciated Thanks

You just need enough for the front bearings to be running in oil. If it flows out, there is too much. If it is 1/8 to 1/4 inch below where it runs out, you are probably ok.

If coach is on LEVEL ground....remove red center plug.....stick your pinky finger in and bend towards the bottom....if you touch oil....you are good to go....if not then add til you can...worked for me for years and years!!!!!
Well Anne I always fill mine with Shell Rotella 15/40 same as the motor oil. I fill mine as the manual calls for it, and on mine it says on LEVEL ground, or cement , fill the oil to the plug level, in other words when you remove the plug, the oil should be a the level of the plug, some might just leak out.
Owned and drove a 2000 Freightliner FLD 120, for over 1,200,000 miles never had a problem with the front axles using that criteria.
