PDM

2019 Newmar London Aire. Coach lost all engine power and ended up at Cummins. They diagnosed a bad PDM. We had done both recalls. We were told it’s over a 100 day wait for PDM #A66-01572-006. Have spent hours trying to find one with no luck. This means we are stranded for 4-6 months. Anyone else dealing with this or have any ideas?

The original recall replaced the PDM, only to find out that the replacement did the same thing. The second recall left the PDM in place and removed some of the circuits that were overloading it and wired them separately outside of the PDM. There has to be hundreds, if not thousands, of the first generation PDM's that were replaced under warranty and then later determined to be okay. Why can't they find one of those and just do the second recall to it.

I'll bet they have them laying around at the shop.

Did you ask why you shouldn't use that model. I mean it may not last but could get you going until a new one is available. Sometimes these shops need to be pushed to be creative versus just sitting there saying no unless they have the exact part. I like to put them in your shoes and ask what they would do if they were stuck like you. Sometimes that makes it personal and they start thinking a little bit more about helping you out. If this one listed above will get you going, why not try it.

Lastly, give Freightliner Corporate a call and explain your issue. They new this part was bad and had a recall. Maybe they should be a little more aggressive in helping you out. They might be able to find one sitting somewhere. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yes. Actually bought the one showing on buyparts.online to later find out they really did not have it and stated they couldn’t find one anywhere in the world!

How about a salvage yard like Visone?? They've got a '15 Tour with a Cummins engine in it...

Just got off phone with Gaffney Freightliner in SC. They say they have one in stock (A66-05172-066) and are sending it to us. We are crossing our fingers! We have had others tell us they are sending only to cancel the order because they don’t really have it. Interestingly, this guy at Gaffney told us at the very least we could order one with the last 3 digits of the part number being any numbers and then told us how to duplicate the circuit board to look just like our broken one. He says the last digits only stand for options and the A66-05172 is the actual PDM. Will keep you posted.
