Rear hub - oil filled?

2019 F/L XCM Chassis Tiffin RED.
I am planning on a DIY oil change of hubs, 1 yr maintenance item. Detroit Axles.

Front looks simple enough. I am wondering about the rear.

I have not removed the "Beauty Ring/Top Hat" to have a proper look-see but in my F/L manual, section 35-05, it appears essentially the same hub as the front. Or am I just mis-reading the manual? The section is titled "Oil-Filled Hubs Oil Changing, Tag Axle". Does this mean *only* a tag axle (I don't have that) or rear & tag axle? If it applies only to a tag axle then does the hub get lubrication from the pumpkin?

Only the rear tag axle. Your differential will drain out the bottom. Detroit has a list of approved lubricants that meet their specifications that you may want to download. I used Mobil Delvac-1 and the best price was from Summit Racing.

I also did the front hubs, but I didn’t rotate the wheel to remove the plug. I pumped it out with my Miti-vac and a small tube. No mess at all and it allowed me to measure what was removed. I used non-synthetic Valvoline 80w90 per the service manual.

Thanks for this info. I misread the requirement. The way it was written with the ",tag" made me think that it meant rear hub & tag. I got lost in the forest that had too many tree's.

It makes a lot more sense now and is a relief to find out I don't have to attempt to raise the rear tire off the ground.

If you are looking at the Freightliner maintenance list, there are likely several line items that don’t apply to your particular coach. That’s what I found, so I typed the list into an Excel spreadsheet and will track date and mileage when those applicable items are completed.

Oh, yes...I discovered that in several places. The front end, the steering box, and the front brakes are disks. No disk brakes in the manual.

Anyway, every day I discover more and learn more. The spreadsheet will be a winter project. I tried entering info into the dashboard LBCU Maintenance section only to discover limitations in that section, for example, generator oil changes are 150hr but only choice is 100 or 200. Duh.
