Reset DEF Warning Alarm

If you get a warning that your DEF is too low, and you add 2.5 gallons, does it reset the warning until that amount is used, or do you have to completely fill the tank? I am considering this on a Freightliner chassis.

With our 2012 Discovery, I just never let it get so low as to cause the alarm to come on. Add 2.5 gallons to keep one green light on, and it's fine.

I've added 2.5 gals when mine went to yellow, and all was well.

Thank you for the feedback, I'm assuming there must be a float mechanism in the larger MH DEF tanks. I wasn't sure how much spare DEF to carry for emergencies. Just picked up two 2.5 gals. of Valvoline DEF at NAPA for $9.99/gal. Should get me down the road to the next fuel stop with a DEF pump.

My tank is 13 gals, and has a guage on it. The dash has 4 lights. Mike Cody at Freightliner said to carry 5 gals, when 2 green lights show it will take 5 gals.

I carry 2 2.5 gal containers. I use them when I get 2 green lights, and refill them at next fuel stop, since my tanks is on passenger side.

With my DEF light flashing red I can only fit in 10 gals (13 gal tank). So there is still plenty left. If Im really low & the truck stops are too busy to go through backwards (tank is on passenger side - GRRRRR). THEN, I may grab a 2 gallon and throw it in the tank. But there is no reason to carry "spare" DEF around. Its sold everywhere....

I agree Bill, The wife has plenty of excuses to go to Walmart so I will not carry DEF in my coach. I just pick up one or 2 2 1/2 Gal jugs when we get to a Walmart or SAMS or Costco.
