Temp Gauge

2017 Ventana Le 4037

Freightliner XC 360 HP chassis. Temperature Gauge.

Outside temperature at 60 degrees I noticed while driving at highway speeds 65mph and NOT climbing any grades other than the typical 2 percent, which is a normal change in grades on the interstate. The temperature gauge would fluctuate as high as just below ¾ hot to a little more than a quarter gauge in a few minutes. Is this normal? I checked the coolant level everything is ok.
Does this chassis use a two-speed fan clutch? I am concern about what will happen if the temperature outside is in the 80,s.

I called Freightliner and was advised this normal. I question that.

DON'T; this is normal given the ambient temp, the coolant going into the engine, from the radiator @ thermostat opening , at 60 degrees ambient , is way cooler that it would be at 90+ , so your gauge swing @ 60 will be more than it would be at 90 , but the smaller swing at 90 will be more frequent .

Yep. Believe Freighliner. Fan turns on around 210 and off at around 190.

Different engine and fan combo. OP has a Cummins with a Horton clutch. I'm guessing that you have a C7 with a fixed fan.

Sometimes I wonder if folks even read before responding.

The OP does mention he has conversed with FL...but didn't believe them.

So, I was quick on the draw ----

However, even the BEST of us will skim over a little due to rushing out.

Ours coolant temps behave the same as the OP. We have a Freightliner Cummins ISC 8.3-liter Engine 360 HP.
