It happens, only sometimes we are 10,000 feet in the air!
After heavy maintenance on my airplane I stay right over the airport for at least a half an hour, land and look things over before venturing cross country.

When I was in SAC in the early 60's, we did better than that. After major maintanence of any kind my A/C would not only have the aircraft crew chief on board for the test flight, but also the shop supervisor from the shop or shops that did the maint work.
KC-97G SAC boomer.

A little drift but I can't help it-
KC-97s I watched them at the Van Nuys ANG back in the 60s
P&W 4360s 4 row radials Boeing Stratocruiser airframe
Have a bad jug? Pull the valve push rods and truck on :-)
Saw many of them land with one caged.
I have a 300+ page book on the development of the 4360
Interesting history and the R-2800 book I have says that they got it to almost the same HP output as the 4360 by the time they dropped making it.

Premature radiator and after cooler failure

I noticed the first post mentioned that he regularly cleaned the radiator assembly with "Simple Green" SIMPLE GREEN EATS ALUMINUM - That could explain the holes and corrosion. The only simple green yoou should use on your radiator is "AIRCRAFT Simple Green" it does not eat aluminum.
Actually "DAWN EXTREME" works just as well.
