I have a 1999 freightliner chassis under my 38 foot Dutch Star MH. The fan runs only when I unplug the solenoid on the what appears to be a hydraulic valve just inside the rear engine access door. Can anyone enlighten me as to the best way to trouble shoot the system. This is a side mounted radiator and fan by the way.

Are you sure that you actually have a problem? My coach has a rear radiator so I don't have any first hand experience, but I do remember from my Camp Freightliner class that any electrical disconnect forces the fan into high speed mode.

What I don't know is if the fan runs at all until the engine gets warm.

On later the models the side rad fan does not run until it needs to. The fail safe mode is "ON", so that's why it runs when you disconnect.

Are you overheating in normal operation?
