VDC and odometer units Miles/Kilometers

I have a 2003 Journey 36L and ever since I bought it a year ago the rear air gauge has intermittently misbehaved. I finally bit the bullet and installed a new VDC (easily done in an hour or two) ($500). Now it appears that the odometer reads in kilometers per hour instead of miles. Is this Possible? Can I fix it? Is this Daimler's way of reminding me that metric is better?-

I know that I could have continued to drive it with the rear air gauge not working quite right but North Carolina where I live requires a "non-commercial CDC" to drive a RV over 26,000 pounds GVW. The drive test involves a demonstration that I know how to check air brakes. A misbehaving air gauge would be a fail.

If it’s a Freightliner chassis there should be a black toggle switch somewhere amongst the instruments. It’s purpose is to change the odometer settings. With the key in the on position hold the switch down 4-5 seconds that should toggle the readout between miles and kilometers. If you press and release quickly it will read the trip mileage, to reset the trip mileage just hold. I hope this helps.

I have wondered what that switch was for. Thanks for the help!

I got a price of $725 when I was on the last cross country trip in Washington state, the service dept didn't quite understand that I couldn't drop it of on Monday and they would try and get to it by Friday. We are from NJ and needless to say we just lived with the low air warning light once in a while. Now that we got home i'm looking for a VDC that isn't $725. Don't know new or used. Thanks Ray

Here's testing info and a pdf on the cold solder joint repair . At $725 I'd be up for trying the VDC repair , several times .
If the soldering scares you , take the VDC and a print out of the repair file to an electronics repair shop.

I did the solder job once before and it lasted 5 or 6 years. This time I think I did in a diaphragm because it's blowing air through the case. I have to figure out new or used. Does the mileage get messed up with a used unit. Thank Ray

Mileage info is stored in the engine ECM so the VDC only collects and reports to the dash ; this is my understanding ; although there have been a couple of posts saying other wise .
