What happened to my airbag??

2015 Discovery I bought in 2018…..original rear airbags had pinholes so they were replaced under warranty in 2018…..
So now they are three years old and 12k miles later the right rear looks like it separated at the top. I pulled it out yesterday and about 2-3 minutes after inflating the bags I heard a massive air leak.
What may have happened……..three days ago I had new tires installed, shop asked if I could raise the coach with the jacks so I did. They put some boards under the jack pads and I lifted just enough for tire removal. When finished I let it down and drove 8 miles home with no issues.
Could I have overextended the bags by raising the coach for the tire clearance?
I don’t think that could happen as the shocks should prevent that.
So……if I didn’t cause it then why in the hell did a 3 year old barely used airbag come apart?
Lol…..guess I could be asking the same thing about the first original ones leaking after 2.5-3 years and 20k miles.

I don’t know why four pictures uploaded but the first one is the left side that’s not leaking and the second is the right side…..as you can see separated from the top

Did you dump the air before you raised it with the jacks? If so that is the way I level my rig and i have raised the tires off the ground with no issues.

The leveling valve should have dumped the air automatically as it lifted up I think. Just as the valve will fill it up as it gets too low. Just guessing here.

I have a 15 Discovery 40E. I have raised, & lowered with air in system, with no air, on 5" of blocks. No blocks on very unlevel ground, soft ground.
My air bags just lift off the metal contoured inverted cups underneath.
I also believe the axles have lowered beyond their normal travel. And we're stuck the cups.
Try using silicone spray or dielectric grease on the cups to ensure they don't stick after replacement. Check travel before replacing, get underneath.

Also do not add air to the suspension until the Jack's are raised, so the air bags are seated on the cups.

What happened to my airbag??

When camping I always lower the bags before leveling the coach, but at the tire shop on level concrete they put some wood blocks under the jacks and I did not dump the air first.

No broken shock.

The tire shop situation may not have had anything to do with it but since it happened the very next time the bags were inflated then I am very suspicious.

If you look at the second photograph I posted you can see the top of the bag appears to have bent down…….I’m not sure how that could have happened.

It looks to me like the top metal support ring of the air spring is not in contact with the frame of the coach, which it should be. Your upper bracket may be damaged. Have you looked at the bracket itself? If this is the case, I question how they were installed.

Sorry, didn’t see this when I posted. There is a bracket at the top holding the air spring to the frame. If the air spring is not pushed against the frame when tightened down, it will leave an air gap that will result in what you see. Additionally, the air spring will not inflate square to the suspension working one side that might result in early fatigue and leakage. This may be the result of the original installation.

See photo for bracket location.

That upper plate looks like its bent the air bags all look stretched out of shape. My first thought is the air spring was over extended. The shocks should keep it from over extending. So maybe : no shocks, wrong shocks, or broken shocks??

Did you change the shocks???

Never a good idea to lift the coach off the ground with levelers! And with air bags still inflated you are putting possibly 9000 lbs of axle weight on that top bracket!
