Where to camp while at Camp Freightliner, Forest City IA
Ladies and Gents,
Well, I got confirmation of the Camp Freightliner classes for July of '14 and, most likely will be attending the Rally the week prior to the two day classes. I'm assuming camping at the Rally is where to be for that event. But, my question is, after the Rally is over, we'll be needing a couple of days while I attend the Camp Freightliner class.
Is it possible and or, recommended to just continue to stay in the Rally campground/area or, should we move to another campground for the two days of class attendance? I looked in "RV Park Reviews" for campgrounds in Forest City IA and a few were listed.
Pammel Campground did not receive pleasant reviews
Pilot Knob also was listed as poor due to sloping camp sites for most of them.
Camping at the Winnebago center is/was primarily for folks that are having service done on their rigs and, does not say anything about camping/staying there while attending camp Freightliner. I don't want to assume anything here.
So, if anyone's done either the Rally and, attended a camp Freightliner immediately after the rally or, just attended the Camp Freightliner for the two days, where did you stay and, what would you recommend? We surely appreciate your help here.
Scott

The Spartanburg KOA has special rates for Camp Freightliner attendees, and Mike Cody (or one of his cohorts) picks up attendees morning and drops them off after classes.
This info will be in your letter along with other details about the class which you will receive from Freightliner Service Center in a couple weeks.

nctox,
I appreciate the advice here but, the Spartanburg KOA is in Gaffney and, we'll be attending the Camp Freightliner class for WIT in Forest City IA. right after the rally.

In addition to the parking right at the Winnebago factory that you use for repairs - across the street is the WIT parking area with electric hook ups. Are you a member of WIT? If not you might join and get 10% (I think it is) off the repairs at the factory. Didn't Camp Freightliner suggest a location?

Bob,
I haven't received the actual "Freightliner" confirmation yet, only an email Syndi telling me she got my emails and, that I'm registered for the class and the confirmations will be coming out soon. So, to answer your question, no I've not been suggested to on where to camp yet.

Scott,
Not to worry. You can park at the Winnebago Rally grounds after GNR is over. I am a "parker" and know they will ask you to move to a different location after GNR is over but they accommodate you on the grounds. I do hope you are planning to come to the Grand National Rally and then stay for Camp Freightliner. I have talked to you previously on the phone and hope to park you when you arrive. I know you will enjoy both events. Mike Cody will be there and I know you will enjoy his talents. Enjoy.

Dengraham,
I appreciate your comments here Sir. I think I remember talking with you but, for the life of me, I can't remember the subject matter. But, that's par for me, I can't remember my own name most of the time. I'm a tad confused on something thought (not hard for me to be confused), you say they might ask me to move our rig after the Rally is over but, yet they will accommodate us?
You say "You" will be doing the "parking control" too? If so, let me know and I'll put some mouse ears on the coach so you'll know it's me.
Scott

On Thursday evening the GNR officially ends you may however stay over for a couple of days free of charge. Watching people prepare to leave Thursday afternoon so they can be first to the dump stations and first out Friday morning is a kick. Some were first in line on opening day, to each his own.
After the free days are over the crew turns off the juice in certain parts of the rally grounds so you will need to move to where you can plug in. I have been there when another rally is coming in so that often times makes a move mandatory.
Pamel Park is a little rustic with only water and electricity but for a few days I don't think it is that bad. Several dump stations are right next door.
Been a few years sence we were there but change in F.C. moves slow so I will assume it is the same.
Try to make it to Thompson and the Branding Iron Restaurant about 17-18 miles.

Attended in 2013
DW and I attended the GNR this year, and attended Camp Freightliner afterwards. They had two classes set up since there were too many for just one; and, we were in the second class. We just had to move into another area of the WIT campground to wait for our class and stayed there through our class. No additional charge. Camp Freightliner is well worth the time and tuition! We both enjoyed it and learned a lot.
