EMS and Portable Generators

We took delivery of our Majestic in July, and it came equipped with a hard-wired Progressive EMS (HW50C). We're big believers in these EMS devices and used a portable version in our Summit. In case you ever end up needing to power up while using a portable generator with a hard-wired EMS, however, turn the EMS off at the monitor.

Portable generators have no neutral-ground bond, and the EMS detects an "open neutral" condition once you fire it off. The EMS will not allow power into the RV but also blanks the monitor, so the user is left with no clue. Turning off the EMS allows for portable generator use - just don't forget to turn it back on when you return to shore power!
