On again -- off again internet satellite access...

I'm back on with access once again. I spent an hour or more on the phone with Hughes technical support (in some foreign country where English is not their first language) and after I was assigned to a different frequency, I was connected again.

I'm not really convinced that it will continue. After a month of these problems, I will require a month of successes to assure myself that it will continue. In the meantime, I am still considering the purchase of an air-card.

Glad things are working again -- it's a frustrating addiction, this internet thing!

Lloyd,
Not sure if you know about the discussion forum for satellite users, but they answer a lot of questions there. A number of the members are installers and have technical knowledge also. Here's the web address,

I am familiar with the Datastorm group. I have posted there on other problems. However, after a discussion with my installer about the problem, I was convinced that it was some connection in all those connections of coax from the dish to the modem. That was until the signal strength would fluctuate widely. Then it was a problem that could be dealt with.

The whole problem is summarized on the Datastorm siter at: http://www.datastormusers.com/ubb/ul.../t/001031.html

I hope the problem is history.
