Slide issue

When we parked today our living room slide started coming out crooked. When I brought it back in rear side will not go all the way in about 2” out. Checked shear bolt yep it’s sheared. Replaced, slide will go all the way out but it is definitely slightly cockeyed. Factory closed for holiday. Any insight on how to adjust? I feel like it has possibly jumped teeth?
Thanks, Gene

Gene -

First, only replace the bolts with Grade 8 quality bolts.

Bring the slide in, carefully, as far as it will go. I understand the rear will be about 2" extended from what you say. Remove the bolt you installed. Get some help and slowly, carefully extend the slide (yes, the front of the slide), until it is about the same distance out that the back of the slide is. Now, get your help to get under the RV and guide you to extend/retract the slide just enough to line up the shaft and the gear axle holes to reinstall the bolt. Yes, this will involve just "bumping the switch" a little to line up the shaft/axle. Then reinstall the Grade 8 bolt. It may not be a perfect alignment, there is another way to do that, but if you are out 2", it will get it close enough to use the other Lippert approved methods of alignment.

Been there, done this.

Just my two cents,
Ron

The bolt that is used in this application are designed to fail. Check the bolt that came out and see what is stamped on the end.

I would not recommend using a Grade 8 bolt as it will not fail easily and you may damage something else if it doesn't.

The recommendation from New Horizons Corporation is a Grade 8 bolt. I have had 3 Grade 8 bolts fail. I had a Grade 5 bolt fail after 15 extension/retraction. The bolt installed by New Horizons is a Grade 8 bolt. I still have the three parts of the original! My recommendation followed New Horizons specs as a New Horizons owner.

Just my two cents,
Ron
