OK, so I'm so tired of these freaking things coming off all the time...

So I have been on the hunt to find something else to use. After looking around work for different things, I stopped by Tractor Supply the other day and found this...

It is the perfect thickness and lays perfectly flat. So I cut this baler belt up in 1" strips x 4" and proceeded to tear off the old pieces of rubber that were constantly falling off and me re-gluing them all the time. I think this has been the source of my bedroom slide leak...the carpet is always getting wet when it rains.

After removing the rubber piece, a lot of nasty glue residue was left to be cleaned off.

The picture above is after some cleaning of the area and a final cleaning with some alcohol and then ready for placement of the new rubber piece seen below.

I had to make a slice in the new piece to get it over the cable, but sliced on a downward angle in hopes that water will flow away.

I spread a generous coat of Goop (Home Depot) over the backside of the new rubber piece and slid it over the cable for placement.

I then closed the slide for 24 hours as the bracket is a good placement holder to apply some pressure on the new piece. The next day I came back a placed a bead of clear caulk over the top of the new rubber piece.

Below is the Goop that I used and the cleaner I used to get all of the old glue off the frame.

The first one that I put on I was not happy with - when the slide was coming out, it was pulling on the new rubber piece. So today I pulled that one off and installed a new one. The new piece came off relatively easy and the Goop just kind of rolled off the frame, although it was stuck on there pretty good.

Oh yea, I forgot...I used a 13/64" drill bit to put the hole in the rubber. Small detail...

In actuality I feel like an old member since I have been reading this thread over and over for the past week or so in an attempt to gather together all the great experiences, tips & tricks, etc.

Yesterday I decided it was time to step up and become a member.

Many years ago, my wife and I had a class C and then a Class A motorhome.
Now that were are at retirement age, but cannot afford to retire, we decided to investigate a new motorhome. After months of research and visiting Southern California RV vendors we lowered our expectations from a $245,000. motorhome (made a deposit) to a trailer. The Winnebago One caught our attention (another deposit) and then later the Cougar High Country 321 RES.

We "bought" the 321 RES several weeks ago and the dealer continues to make our requested additions and adjustments. We visit the dealer each weekend to check on their progress.

We now anticipate paying for the trailer and picking it up September 28. I have already brought things to the dealers' attention I learned on this thread, including thermostat recall, leaking black water tank flush connection, potential for sagging queen mattress, moving the table an inch closer to the window line to prevent it from rubbing against the kitchen cabinet, etc. I love it when I catch a dealer off guard. One of the last things on our dealers list is to eliminate the squeaking which occurs when you wiggle the kitchen table top. Has anyone discovered a way to reliably stop this?

Our 321RES is a 2013 model (western build) with the TT convenience package, value package, camping in style package, polar package plus, 15,000 BTU A/C unit, 50 amp wiring, an A/C unit in the bedroom, free standing dinette, air mattress couch on kitchen slide-out and two swivel/recliner chairs. My wife likes the window valences, and noticed the three windows in the bedroom have end-curtains not valences. This prompted us to require the dealer to make a change I doubt many of the readers of this thread have made. We had the dealer order three sets of valences from Keystone to replace the three sets of bedroom curtains.

Several earthquakes have been centered in our town during the last few months. When we lived in Whittier CA many years ago a severe earthquake kept us out of our house for six weeks. At that time we had a Class C motorhome which really helped us out. Therefore, one use of the new trailer will be temporary housing in the event our house becomes uninhabitable. The other main use will be a place to stay at the beach when I am using my off-shore fishing boat.

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum! Capturing the experiences of another 321 owner will be great. I have not experienced the squeaky table yet. Wish we would have thought of the change in bedroom curtains!

Welcome to the forum.. We hope the delivery of your trailer has gone good.. That is a nice idea for the curtains, however, we will stay with the factory cloth curtains as they block light better.. In the summer up here, that is a major ++.. There is a lot of information in this thread and may be of help while you are settling into your new toy.. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask away!!

The Wife and I finally took possession of our new 2013 High Country RES321 on 27 Sept. Been looking at this model for over the last two years. I'm pulling with the 2012 Ford Super Duty Diesel 6.7 using a Equal-i-zer hitch and does it just float along. We have been stocking up with support item for over a year just waiting to load them in the Trailer. I have a big dent in the check-book but we both have a great big grin on our faces. What else can I say!

Congratulations!! Enjoying it?? How is that 6.7?? I had heard about them while they were coming out, but not much since.. We have an 09 with the 6.4L and it does very well.. I wish we could get an Equal-i-zer hitch up here!!

The 6.7 has been a very pleasant experience. The torque is un-beliveable and the ease that it pulls the Cougar is amazing. It's extremely quite and clean. Milage while pulling says that I'm averaging 13.8 mpg and without pulling I'm averaging 20.4. So far I have been real pleased with the big Ford.

I'm retired now but used to work for CSXT Railroad. I drove a Ford 350 with utility bed for over 12 years and I must say that this 2012 Super Duty 250 is a far more beefy-er truck. I was really surprised when I first got it and stepped on the accelerator and it really pressed me back in the seat. I would for sure purchase another one in the future.

Does anyone know if the factory rims on the 321 are rated for 80psi? I'm looking at upgrading the tires to load range E and would like to keep the OEM rims if possible. I have a call into Keystone but have not received a reply for several days now.

I would like to give everyone a heads up. The neutral on our 50 cable was cut to short so we had an open neutral going into the trailer. Unfortunately, the surge protector was between the pedestal and the cable. This problem destroyed the converter. I am not sure if it took out any other electronics or not at this time. The white cable going to the female connection must have been just been touching the connector when we got the cable and it came lose. The screws holding the other connections were not tightened down. You may want to check this before it causes you any problems. The insulation on the male plug had previouly pulled away. I had to replace that plug because it was molded on and I had to cut the cable to repair it.

I hope you were under warranty, best on the wallet.. I imagine the repair was tough given the weight of the cable.. Plus - good you found it, we had a neutral fault in our house feeder panel, and from what I learned from the power folks, that is a major safety (fire) issue.. This was found 4 months after our house was rebuilt from a major fire..

Who is still full - timing in their res321? Just curious as to space and economics of it all??
I would love to give it a go, but DW is finally in a good position.. Still may on my retirement in a year or so..
