SC beach Area
We are planning to go to SC after we leave Kentucky. We want to be fairly close to all towns and beaches. We love to ride bicycles, so we want a bike friendly rv park/CG, and town . We also need to slow down a bit. 19,000 miles in 8 months. We would like to save a few bucks for a couple of weeks, so if you can recommended a reasonably cheap place to stay that would be cool.

One of our favorites is Huntington Beach State Park, just south of Mrytle Beach. All sites have water and electricity but not all have sewer. Site info is on their web site Anna Hyatt Huntington - South Carolina Landmarks - Huntington Beach State Park. Being a state park, rates are reasonable.
Regards,
Ed

We like Huntington Beach State Park (our second favorite beach park in SC), and there are places to bike in the park. But if you are looking to bike to town, probably not a good idea. It's right on US 17 which is really busy. Other options include Myrtle Beach State Park, and the numerous commercial parks such as Ocean Lakes.

Don't know if Myrtle Beach is your preferred destination, but I would not characterize that area as particularly bicycle friendly. Riding inside most any campground is fine, but otherwise traffic is not conducive to biking, IMHO. Further south, Hilton Head Island has a good reputation for being bicycle friendly. Here's a link to that information as well as other SC communities (mostly inland) that are bicycle friendly. Good luck with your trip.

Thanks for the info everyone. We have made reservations at Briarcliff Rv resort in Myrtle Beach. Looks like the cg will be good to ride in. I mostly do it for the dogs exercise. I cant walk far enough or fast enough to give him a good workout, so it's good for both of us. It's always nice however to be able to get around town on my bike.

Very busy US17 outside of Briarcliff RV park. If you go to Charleston, there is James Island County park that has a nice paved bike trail.

If you come to Myrtle Beach ... Take your bikes down to Murrells Inlet (off of the Business 17) past Nance's Restaurant and get on the bike path. You can ride all the way down to Pawley's Island. Nice ride I'm told and a lot of it is in the shade. You'll be riding past the entrance of Huntington Beach State Park and of course past Brookgreen Gardens.
