Alternator charging

I’m wondering if y’all can tell me if my coach would for sure charge the house batteries from the alternator while driving. It has not been, and I took it to a shop to have a look. They called wanting to know if I knew for sure that my coach had this functionality. I have a 2005 select 45ds04.

Thanks!

Unless someone here is familiar with your coach, a picture of your battery bay will help a bunch

Check your battery connect solenoid. If it has failed it could be the culprit.

Almost all motorhomes have a bridging system that allows charging from the chassis battery to the house battery.

It is done by a solenoid wired between the battery banks and in mororhomes with large house banks, some kind of voltage sensing controller. The solenoid is a pretty high failure item.

I'm not sure I would be having that particular system repaired by a shop that doesn't know if it's even there.

I’d think a 2005 Travel Supreme Select Series M-45DS04 would definitely have a “BiRD,” or “BIM” or “Big Boy” or similar latching solenoid/relay to facilitate alternator charging of both house and chassis battery banks. So whatever system you have for this has a problem.

Now, I’d be worried that your repair shop couldn’t discern this without calling you.

I have a 2005. Mine does. It did fail. It's tough to find - up behind the duals outside the basement wrapped in what will look like a plastic garbage bag. It took a small technition to change it....Good luck.
