Here we go again
Hi all..
Well, I was out today in below freezing weather trying to pack up some of our stuff for our annual snow bird trip to Arizona. We are to leave about or on January 6th... Right after the holidays... Weather permitting! We are due some snow over the next few days so I wanted to pull in the slides so we don't cover the slide toppers etc.
Well I went to go into the coach to do that [moderator edit] THe door would not open! In fact the door handle would not move! I had the same issue last year at the same time... Believe me it wasn't easy or convenient to get the door open to pull the panel off of the door to get the thing working... We had some errands to run in town so I had to look forward to doing the dirty deed when I got home!
Well.. The RV gods were smiling on me... I got home and the temps were above freezing and the door opened! Really great news!I pulled the panel loose (breaking some of the plastic retaining trim) and found the cable that runs from the latch and handle to the door upper door lock was stuck.. That would not allow the handle to move. I used penetrating oil and readjusted the cables and it is working better than it was before! I damned near froze and my hands and feet were tingling from my neuropathy*but it is working. I will have to contact the people who built the door and latches to see if the cables and maybe the latch is available. Also see if the plastic trim is available...*But I am relieved that it wasn't a difficult fix or that someone didn't have to crawl in the window or something...*Cold but relieved!
Have any of you replaced the cables to the top "open" lock and to the latch itself? It is made by PTL in Michigan I believe... How difficult is it to replace the cables themselves? Also I need some of the "J" trim that hold the finish door panel to the plywood backing.. Home Depot appears to carry some but it isn't made to accommodate the thickness of the finish panel and plywood backing... Any suggestions?
Happy Prosperous New Year to all...
Ron Husak
Thanks again for any and all suggestions.. But at least I am in...
