Hydra-Hot Radiator Cap

Was doing some routine maintenance on my hydra-hot yesterday and while I had the cover off I noticed steam coming from around my radiator cap.

This morning, after the system had cooled down, I had a heck of a time removing the cap. Once I got it off it obviously needed replacement. Both gaskets had dried out and cracked. Luckily my HHE-200-08E takes the standard 13# cap that can be purchased at NAPA for under $10.00.

I have had low fluid level in the reservoir off and on for the past couple of months. I'm betting the new radiator cap will solve this problem.

If you haven't replaced your cap it might be time to give it a check!

Excellent reminder!

I bought a replacement cap that had a pressure-release lever on top. Makes it much safer to remove the cap.

BUT...make sure your overflow bottle is empty or you've clamped off the hose from it to the Hydro tank at the cap. Otherwise any fluid in the bottle flows out of the tank when you remove the cap! Don't ask how I know...

Doug, for what its worth, LLoyd De Gerald says to not use a pressure release cap.

Some systems use the large cap without the pressure release that costs around $80.00.

I got my info from Roger Berke who sells the 13# lever release cap on his website for my HHE-200-08E Hydra-Hot.

Would be interested in an explanation of why Mr Gerald says no pressure release cap?
