Over the door awning

How do I get the cover off of the OTD awning motor? I'm afraid that I am going to break the plastic shroud. All of my slides have carefree toppers and the large awnings are Girards. The door awning doesn't have any markings, so not sure who the mfg is...
Switch has power, I just want to check the motor and find our why the awning is in-op.

Try calling Entegra (800-945-4787), they can probably help you.

Should be a Carefree Marquee OTD unit. It has a tubular motor that comes out the left end. Here this should help you.

Not too difficult. You most likely have the 2 slot motor, use the instructions for the 1531 Kit. Easy to replace, but order the kit before taking apart if possible. Be sure to follow the instructions. Best to have a helper. Once the awning is open after the motor is loose, remove the 3 screws that attach the awning to the side and slide it forward, the wires are inside the caulked hole. Just disconnect and completely remove the awning for the easiest job. Be sure to reajust the stops before using.
Let me know if you need more info.

I have a 2007 Alante with the same OTD awning that you have. When mine quit I had to remove it from the coach because the screws that hold the plastic cover in place are on the back of the unit. When I finally got to the motor it was full of water! Carefree replaced the motor and cover with a new one that is designed to stop the accumulation of water.

Thank you Al and Rob,
Those darn screws just had to be hidden. I have been all over that thing and could not figure how to get the cover off. so now the question is.. How do I remove the whole assembly from the coach so the I can get to the hidden screws so that I can get to the motor? Does it have something to do with the long strip above that has about 8-10 screws in it?

To the best of my memory, you have to get the awning extended far enough to get to the screws inside that screw the case to the side of the coach. I was lucky in that mine failed partially open. Then disconnect the wires, I had to cut them. Next slide the whole thing forward off the track.

The instruction link (in my previous post) steps you through how to get the awning out if in. Once out the screws are quite visible. Just tip the complete awning up a bit and slide it out.
